In the past the club
had a very successful team demonstrating obedience work and
agility, also to keep the audience entertained between events
handlers and dogs would perform several novelty tasks and
tricks. For
some it has been a whole new experience whilst for a few others
it is a chance for them to once more be a part of a happy team
with the prospect of showing their dog’s skills to the public at
large.
Our equipment
consists of a set of small jumps which the dogs bound over, more
demanding a set of larger jumps including a hole in the wall, a
see-saw, long jump, tunnel, weave poles, a six foot six high
plank walk, an A frame and thankfully for some of the handlers a
pause table. An impressive part of the equipment are the fire
jumps, this may sound ominous but the dogs treat these with as
much enthusiasm as everything else and it goes without saying
these jumps are approached with the utmost safety of our dogs in
mind.
Often the different
elements of the agility course prove a little intimidating to
dogs that are approaching them for the first time but with
patience, encouragement and help from the instructors, Anita and
Richard, they soon overcome their hesitations, then it’s hard to
keep them away from it, especially the tunnel which seems to be
every dog’s favourite.
To sum up, it’s all
about showing the best all round ability of our breed whilst
having some fun along the way.
